Preparation
- Lay all slices of bread on a flat surface and lavishly spread butter on one side of each slice.
- Flip the slices over and evenly spread pizza sauce on the unbuttered side of two slices.
- Layer the mozzarella and provolone cheese over the sauced slices.
- Arrange the pepperoni slices on top and sprinkle with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.
- Close up the sandwiches with the remaining slices, buttered side facing up.
Cooking
- Heat a heavy-bottomed cast iron skillet over medium-low heat.
- Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Allow to rest for 1-2 minutes, slice diagonally, and serve immediately.
Notes
For a healthier option, use whole grain bread, add vegetables, and use healthier fats. Can be made vegan or gluten-free using appropriate substitutions.
